About Clarion Desktop

Clarion Desktop is a maintained technical and community publication for Clarion developers.

The Origins of ClarionDesktop

ClarionDesktop has roots going back to 2006, when Gary James created the original Clarion Desktop as an independent project. Gary had previously worked for CapeSoft and had established his own company, StrategyOnline.

His idea was to make life a little easier for Clarion developers by bringing useful information together in one place.

The original Clarion Desktop combined a website with a small Windows application that could identify installed third-party Clarion accessories, display their version numbers, and notify users when updates became available. Gary also envisioned providing convenient access to installer information, technical articles, and news from sources such as Clarion Magazine and SoftVelocity.

The project attracted the participation of numerous third-party publishers and reflected a need that still exists today: making it easier for Clarion developers to find and keep up with the tools and resources available to them.

ClarionDesktop Today

Today's ClarionDesktop carries forward the original idea of bringing Clarion information together, but with a different approach.

The new ClarionDesktop is a website, not an application that needs to be installed. It is designed to work equally well on desktop computers, tablets, and mobile phones, making it a pocket resource for Clarion developers, available wherever and whenever they need it.

Rather than maintaining a list of locally installed accessories, storing installer passwords, or tracking individual product updates, the site focuses on helping developers discover what's available throughout the Clarion world.

That includes current products, templates, development tools, publishers, source-code repositories, documentation, technical articles, community forums, and historically important resources.

And Clarion is a worldwide community. Valuable information exists in many languages, so ClarionDesktop is designed to help developers discover resources beyond the English-speaking community as well.

Part of that work involves maintaining connections to Clarion's past. Over the years, products have changed ownership, websites have disappeared, and technical articles and source-code collections have moved to new homes. Helping developers find those resources again is an important part of what ClarionDesktop is intended to accomplish.

The goal is simple: make ClarionDesktop a place developers can turn to when they want to know what's available, where to find it, and what's happening in the Clarion world.

We appreciate Gary James for creating the original Clarion Desktop and establishing the idea that inspired this new effort.

Thanks to Scott Daughtry

We thank Scott Daughtry for generously allowing Clarion Desktop to use his Clarion Developer Resources, 2026 Community Edition as an important starting point for building this directory. His research helped us discover both current and historical Clarion tools and resources. The expanded directory is independently researched and maintained by Clarion Desktop; Scott is not responsible for its ongoing content.

An international Clarion community

Clarion is an international developer community. Clarion Desktop intentionally supports multiple site languages used by Clarion developers. Community submissions are welcome in their original language, and original wording is preserved. Clarion Desktop may provide additional reviewed translations or clearly identified machine-assisted translations. Linked external resources may remain in the language chosen by their original publisher. Individual Clarion Desktop articles may not be available in every supported site language.

History and preservation

History and preservation are first-class parts of the site, alongside current resources and community activity.

Support Clarion Desktop

Clarion Desktop is independently maintained. Information about helping with hosting, domain, and continuity costs will be provided when a qualified support mechanism is available.
